A long-serving chair of governors at an education group is stepping down after nearly two decades of service.
Andrew McConnell OBE has served on the governing board of the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group since 2006 and has been chair since December 2019, playing a central role in the organisation’s growth and success.
He will be succeeded by David Powell, who has served as a governor since 2020 and brings extensive experience in further education.
Mr McConnell will remain on the board as a governor.
He said: "It has been a privilege to work alongside the Group's dedicated, loyal and professional staff, whose commitment continues to transform the lives of learners across our region.
"I wish David and the rest of the Board every success for the future.
"I will miss being Chair of such a wonderful organisation, but I am looking forward to continuing as a Governor."
Mr Powell added: "When I was first asked to become a Governor, saying 'yes' was my way of thanking a sector that has given me so much opportunity and joy throughout my life.
"Becoming Chair feels like an extension of that thank you.
"Andrew has led the Board brilliantly and leaves behind a Group that is performing exceptionally well."
