A North Yorkshire town came alive to the sound of brass at the weekend.
Kirkbymoorside was at the heart of a spectacular celebration of brass music on Sunday, as Bandamonium Yorkshire 2 brought bands, musicians and audiences together for a day of music, community and fun.
Organised by Bandamonim and hosted by Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band, the free, non-competitive festival saw brass bands from across the country perform throughout the day at venues across North Yorkshire, with Kirkbymoorside acting as the centre of operations.
Altogether eight bands took part, Tees Components Brass, London Metropolitan Brass Band, Stape Silver Band, Swinton and District Excelsior Band, Tewit Community Band, Bandamonium Barbarians, Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band and the Kirkbymoorside Bandtastics.
Audiences were able to enjoy live brass music throughout the day and follow their favourite bands as they travelled around the area.
The festival culminated back in Kirkbymoorside with a spectacular massed-band performance, bringing the participating musicians together for a memorable finale in the town.
Swinton and District Excelsior Band won the audience choice award and Tees Valley Components were awarded the Spirit of Bandamonim Trophy.
The Yorkshire event has grown from its successful first staging and forms part of the wider Bandamonium festival concept, which began in Devon before expanding to Yorkshire.
Bandamoniuim is free for both participating bands and audiences and is designed to showcase brass band music in informal and picturesque community settings while encouraging audiences to experience different bands and venues throughout the day.
Phil Woodward, Band Manager of Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band, said: “Unlike a traditional brass band competition, Bandamonium is all about participation, enjoyment and bringing music into the heart of local communities.
“Bands are encouraged to ‘let their hair down’, perform music of their choice and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the festival.”
Phil added: “Bandamonium is about bringing people together through brass music and creating something that the whole community can enjoy. We were delighted to welcome bands and audiences to Kirkbymoorside and the surrounding area for what has been a fantastic celebration of live music.
