A “much-loved husband and father” died of “acute” head injury following an incident in Scarborough.
Damon Nicky John O’Nions-Cairns, 40, died in Scarborough Hospital on Tuesday, January 13, an inquest held last week heard.
He was found by his uncle laid on the bedroom floor of his home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 and taken to hospital.

The hearing heard that Mr O’Nions-Cairns went to a local pub on Tuesday, December 30 and returned home later that evening.
Opening the inquest on Friday, September 4 at Northallerton Coroners’ Court Dr Gill Kane, assistant coroner for York and North Yorkshire, said Mr O’Nions-Cairns was born in Bridlington and was married to Bernadette, a housewife.
At the time of his death his family released a statement through North Yorkshire Police in which they described him as a “much-loved son, brother, uncle, grandson, husband and father and said his death as a “tragedy” that had “broken” the family’s heart.
The statement read: “Damon was born in Bridlington and joined his brother and sister, then another sister came along.
“He enjoyed going fishing with his father.
“He was a little tearaway at school. He had a heart of gold but struggled with mental illness.
“He would help anybody, especially elderly folk who he treated with respect.”
At the inquest opening Dr Kane told Northallerton Coroners’ Court that the provisional cause of Mr O’Nions-Cairns’ death was “an acute left sided subdural haemorrhage caused by a blunt force head injury”.
The hearing was adjourned to a later date.
Criminal court proceedings are ongoing in connection with this incident.
