Career opportunities in agriculture are set to take centre stage at a high-profile industry event.
The Women in Farming Network’s annual Autumn Gathering returns for its 13th edition on Tuesday, October 13, at The Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn.
The event will run from 10am to 3pm and is open to all members of farming and rural communities across the region.
Helen Wyman, who will chair the event, was born into Yorkshire farming and is a regular at Women in Farming events.
This year’s gathering is held in partnership with Barclays and sponsored by HECK! and Irwin Mitchell.
A panel of four speakers from across the food and farming sector will share their personal journeys, challenges, and successes in building careers in agriculture.
Among the speakers is Charlotte Kingham, head butcher at Hops & Chops, who appears in Series 5 of Clarkson’s Farm.
A chance opportunity to help in the butchery department led her into the trade.
Also speaking is Laura Millar, director and head of operations at H&H, who brings more than 15 years of industry experience.
She and her husband run a pedigree dairy herd and a cattle-breeding business specialising in Jerseys and Holsteins.
Alicia Martin of Frontier Agriculture and Nicola Bowers, a pig veterinary technician and Nuffield Farming Scholar, will also share their stories.
Ms Bowers holds a Master's degree in Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare and began her career with research at Newcastle University.
Attendees will hear personal presentations and take part in a panel discussion, gaining insights into the decisions and opportunities that have shaped each speaker’s career.
The event aims to highlight the many routes into the industry, encourage skill development, and promote networking within the sector.
Ms Wyman, a 2022 Nuffield Farming Scholar, researched global mentoring programmes before founding TwoCan Mentor, which fosters connections in the food and farming community.
Tickets are priced at £25 per person and include refreshments, lunch, networking opportunities, and an optional behind-the-scenes tour of Tennants.
They can be booked at https://wif-autumn-gathering-2026.eventbrite.co.uk.
The Women In Farming Autumn Network is an initiative of the Yorkshire Rural Support Network, funded by the farming charity, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
The event continues to grow in popularity, bringing together women from across the sector to share experiences, build connections, and inspire one another.
It serves as a reminder of the diverse career possibilities within agriculture and the vital role of women in the industry.
