A new 10-year vision for the countryside is set to be unveiled at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

Unveiled at the Great Yorkshire Show by Mayor David Skaith, the plan sets out a vision to strengthen rural communities by 2035.

Mr Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said: "The Great Yorkshire Show brings together the very best of our farmers and rural communities.

"They're the people who understand the challenges and opportunities better than anyone else, and I will take every opportunity to listen to their views.

"As we launch our ambitious Rural Action Plan to transform our countryside into a place of genuine opportunity, we start as we mean to go on.

"We're committed to giving a powerful voice to those who call these special places home."

The plan outlines a commitment to deliver at least 5,000 new rural homes, with a focus on affordable, community-led developments.

It also supports efforts to tackle fuel poverty through retrofitting homes and pledges to improve digital connectivity by targeting digital and mobile blackspots.

Other elements include a push for greener transport options and rural crime prevention measures.

The authority is making its major debut this year with two panel sessions at the show.
