A POPULAR author and wine expert visited Malton for a fascinating evening of conversation and laughter.

Olly Smith appeared at the Milton Rooms in a collaboration between the venue along with Malton's Kemps Bookstore and Derventio Wines.

In conversation with Alex Danson from Derventio Wines, Olly discussed his debut novel, Death by Noir, a witty cosy crime set in the Sussex wine world, which was followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

Alongside, guests received a complimentary glass of English sparkling wine on arrival, supplied by Derventio Wines, for an immersive evening of storytelling and refreshments.

The following day, Olly visited Kemps to admire a range of titles and sign some of his books, which are on sale in-store if you missed the event.

Owner of Kemps General Store and Bookshop, Liz Kemp, said: "We were really excited to welcome BBC Saturday Morning wine expert Olly Smith to Malton for a great event. Teaming up with Derventio Wines and The Milton Rooms made for a really fun evening and gave Malton some great profile and PR."

Alex Danson from Derventio Wines said: ‘What a night we had with Olly Smith. I cannot thank Kemps and the Milton Rooms enough for organising such a brilliant evening and inviting us along. Olly was such a wonderful person to welcome to Malton and his book is a triumph. It was an absolute pleasure to interview him about ‘Death by Noir’, in particular his fascinating characters (Pinot the dog being a personal favourite) and drinking some lovely wine alongside. Cheers to a great Malton collaboration and long may they continue.’

To ensure more events like this go ahead, support is vital. Kemps have a range of upcoming events across numerous genres, including well-known faces, so stay tuned for announcements.
