A POPULAR North Yorkshire is taking safety messages during the current heatwave.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has moved all current services between Pickering and Grosmont to diesel locomotives due to safety concerns.

A spokesperson for NYMR said: "We are still running steam on the lower risk Grosmont to Whitby section, and are monitoring the situation.

"We apologise for any inconvenience; the safety of our natural surroundings, passengers, staff and volunteers is always our top priority.

"A reminder to all passengers visiting NYMR to stay hydrated, use sun protection, and seek shade during peak UV hours (usually 11am to 3pm).

"Thank you for your understanding."
