A YOUNG woman who battled an eating disorder has marked the 10th anniversary of her recovery by completing a charity challenge.
Bethany Tasker took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks with her family and friends raising £1,000 for the Ryedale-based Kick Rexi Out.
The 25-year-old, who lives in Malton, decided to tackle the challenge to mark a decade since she was discharged from a specialist eating disorder unit for anorexia.
Bethany said: “I would like to thank everyone who joined me on the challenge, to have you all by my side made this so much easier, I had an amazing day and I’m so proud of each and everyone of you.
"Special thank you to Nadine Mapplebeck, Jamie Tasker, Edd Jones, Sophy Daniels and Brendon Foster who completed all three peaks with me, your determination and company inspired me to keep going.
"My amazing mum Katy Tasker who has been my biggest supporter in everything I do and most importantly in my recovery, without you I wouldn’t be here celebrating my 10 year anniversary and no thank you will ever be enough. I’m so proud of you for pushing yourself to complete the first half with me.
"And lastly thanks to Kick Rexi Out for coming to spur us on before the last peak, travelling so far to show your support means a lot. You’re making a massive difference to those who are affected by eating disorders so raising this money has been an honour."
Kick Rexi Out was set up to provide emotional and physical support to families in the Ryedale area who are caring for a child or young adult with an eating disorder.
Donna Foster, who lives in Nawton, set up the charity after her daughter Annie was diagnosed with anorexia four years ago.
The anorexia in their house became known as “Rexi” taking over Annie’s thoughts and actions. Annie was eventually admitted into a specialist unit over 2.5 hrs away from home where she spent eight months in the specialist unit.
Donna said: "Annie has come on so much, never thought she would be living the life she is now. It’s been a long four years to get her where she is, but we keep pushing on.
She added: "Bethany is amazing. Teb years ago Bethany was discharged from a specialist eating disorder unit for anorexia.
"That’s when the real recovery begins and what a journey she has been on. So to be able to walk the three peaks this last weekend is an incredible achievement. We at Kick Rexi Out are so, so proud of her."
Bethany, is holding a bingo at Ryedale Community Leisure Centre to raise further funds for Kick Rexi Out on Friday, June 19 at 7.30pm.
The bar will be open and there will be a cake sale along with a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
