Tennis players at Malton Rackets Club have made a smashing start to the 2026 season.

With nine teams competing across four leagues, the club continues to display robust health, with a large number of junior and adult players, girls and boys, and competitive teams at all levels.

Three teams remain unbeaten after the first four rounds of the various leagues, and last Monday, all four teams in the Hovingham Mixed League won.

Malton A had a convincing 54-27 win against Alne A in Division 1.

The B team won by the same score at Crayke, with the C’s defeating Kirkbymoorside B by 50-31, both in Division 2, and finally the D’s by 49-32 against Raskelf C in Division 3.

In the mixed league, the A team has won its first four matches, with academy product James Dawson performing very well, lowering the average age of the team at the same time.

MRC B, under the captainship of former club chair Sam Alasfar, is also unbeaten, and with half the squad made up of junior players, the future is looking bright.

The C team has won two of their matches, and the D team’s win was their first of the season.

In the Driffield Ladies League, headed by Fiona Cummings from MRC for two matches, in Division 1, results have been balanced between one win and one loss.

The Hovingham Ladies League, a single league that operates on Thursday evenings, has seen the B team play two matches without a win.

In the match at Alne, Alison was named player of the match.

For the Driffield Men’s League, captained by James Dawson, the club's A team remains unbeaten after three matches in Division 3.

The standout player so far is Fred at 16 years old.

Club Coach Mark Franklin is running the traditional summer camps for juniors again this year.
