A new play celebrating the women who soared through the skies in World War Two is coming to Scarborough.
Spitfire Girls is coming to the Stephen Joseph Theatre, as part of its tour across the UK this spring, paying homage to the lives and tales of unsung heroines of the sky.
The play features a main cast comprising Katherine Senior, who portrays 'Bett', Kirsty Cox as 'Joy/C.O.', Jack Hulland as 'Dad/Frank', and Hannah Morrison, who plays ‘Dotty’.
Katriona Brown will share the role of ‘Bett’, while Paul Brown will play 'Tom/Jimmy'.
The play promises an ‘untold story of strength, courage, and loss’, exploring a time when female pioneers shattered expectations.
The play is set on New Year’s Eve, 1959, focusing on an emotional reunion between two women, decades after the war had separated their paths.
The production, also commemorating the 80th Anniversary year of World War Two's conclusion, first premiered at MAST Mayflower Southampton in March 2025, receiving critical acclaim since.
The playtext of Spitfire Girls was published in March 2025 and published by Concord Theatricals.
Spitfire Girls will be performed at Stephen Joseph Theatre from May 21 to May 23, 2026 and is recommended for audiences aged 10 and above.
