A tale of obsession and madness will soon take centre stage in Scarborough with a new upcoming production.
Emerging actors from the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s Young Company will perform Woyzeck at the Scarborough venue from May 13 to 16.
The play follows Franz Woyzeck, a soldier tormented by poverty, exploited by military superiors, and haunted by disturbing voices.

To earn extra money, Woyzeck submits to medical experiments that further destabilise his fragile grip on reality.
Rob Salmon, head of creative engagement at the Stephen Joseph Theatre and director and designer of the production, said: "After the overwhelming response to their first two productions, we wanted to set the Young Company a real challenge.
"Woyzeck is a startling drama, and they’ve really raised their game to give our audiences a great night out at the theatre."
Written by Georg Büchner, Woyzeck is considered one of the first modern plays, blending naturalistic tragedy with a sharp social critique.

This is the Young Company’s third production, following last year’s Education, Education, Education and 2024’s DNA.
