A HYBRID vehicle has been on fire in a North Yorkshire town car park.

The county's fire and rescue service said it sent crews to Ashwood Close in Helmsley around 6.50pm yesterday (January 28).

A service spokesperson said crews from the town and from Easingwold went to the fire, adding: "The vehicles battery was smoking and went into thermal runaway.

"Crews continued to monitor this for some time using a thermal imaging camera whilst fighting the fire with a hose reel jet and water curtain."
