A NEW pop-up shop which was chosen by shoppers and visitors has opened in Malton.
As part of the Wow Wheelgate project, and in response to the project’s independent survey, the shop will be open for the next three months.
The View from My Rear, a unique and fun business created by Merryn Wilderspin, at 23A Wheelgate, offers a variety of fashion items such as bags, shoes and umbrellas, that cannot be found anywhere else.
Merryn’s original designer prints are made to order on people’s choice of bag, footwear, accessory or casual clothing.
Every design tells a story, inspired by the views from Merryn's home near Malton.
With her designs reflecting her love of nature, heritage and local stories, the different ranges cater for everyone, be it classic premium leather, responsible fun fashion or 100% organic and recycled.
Merryn said: “Bringing The View From My Rear to people in my home town of Malton and able to experience all the elements of retailing, is such a valuable opportunity and I am grabbing it with both hands. I’ve already started discussions with the experts who are being so generous with their time. I have exciting plans for each of my three special months and can’t wait.”
The Pop Up space has been made possible thanks to the Fitzwilliam Estate, who when approached with the idea, have offered the prominent retail space in the middle of Wheelgate for three months, covering all the rental and utility costs.
Sue Jefferson, Director, Circular Malton & Norton CIC, said: "Alongside this, the Wheelgate team have put in place wraparound business support to help this first-time retail experience be maximised and set Merryn up for a strong successful future.
"The generous business support comes from Malton’s established business leaders, from York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub, orth Yorkshire Council’s business support team and Enterprise Cube."
The Wheelgate team have extended the same business support to the Pop Up competition runners up, whom we are sure we shall see more of in the future and also to an independent Pop Up shop simultaneously appearing on the other side of the street, for the month of December.
The Wow Wheelgate project was created thanks to York & North Yorkshire’s mayoral funding to revitalise high streets and is led by a team of local businesses, Malton in Bloom and others.
It is being led by Circular Malton & Norton CIC, which has recently moved to Wheelgate.
