A POPULAR Christmas market in North Yorkshire has been cancelled.
The two-day Malton Christmas Festival, described as 'the shopping event of the year', was due to be held on December 6 and 7.
However, a statement on the event website Event Owl, said: "We regret to inform you that the Malton Estate has made the difficult decision to cancel this event.
"All traders who applied will be contacted directly by the Malton organising team in due course to discuss any financial reimbursements. Please note that all trader payments are routed through Stripe to the Malton organising team - Event Owl does not hold or retain any trader funds.
"We want to reassure you that Event Owl is not responsible for this cancellation, nor has their service been in any question. The decision was made solely by the Malton organisers and was not taken lightly."
The Gazette & Herald has contacted the Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate for a comment.
