Pickering Market Place transformed into wizarding world

thanks to secretive yarnbombers

A secretive group of yarnbombers has transformed a market place in North Yorkshire into a woollen wizarding world in time for summer visitors to enjoy.

The Pickering Yarnbombers chose the wizarding theme in a nod to the town’s strong links with the Harry Potter characters, courtesy of the 1930’s themed North Yorkshire Moors Railway where the steam train and the nearby Goathland station were used as locations in the first of the films.

The town’s knitting talents are on full-show with at least 12 bollards and the post box in the market place adorned with woolly depictions of characters such as Harry Potter, Hagrid and Dumbledore.

Main road in North Yorkshire to be closed one way from tomorrow (Monday)

Shops around the town will also be holding a ‘Hunt The Snitch’ competition from next Friday 18 July, inviting people to find a series of ornate decorated balls called snitches in the shop windows before taking their answers to Pickering Book Tree with the chance to win Pickering Town Gift Vouchers.

A member of the Pickering Yarnbombers, who wanted to remain anonymous said: “We couldn’t think of a better theme to make people smile this summer as they walk through the market place and notice the characters. Pickering is a magic place at any time of year but now we’ve just taken it to a new level!”
