A York City supporter has admitted trying to take a flare into a stadium where the Minstermen were about to play a league match.
The 16-year-old was among nine people arrested when Hartlepool United played York City on March 1.
Prosecutors have started legal moves to make him subject to a football banning order.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Teesside Youth Court. He admitted possessing a pyrotechnic flare while attempting to enter Hartlepool United’s home ground for the National League match.
Sentence was adjourned until July 9 at the same court. Magistrates will then hear prosecution and defence arguments about whether he should be banned from all professional and international football matches in the UK for at least three years and be banned from travelling abroad when England is playing abroad.
Nearly 5,000 people attended the match which York City won 1-0.
In the run-up to the game, both clubs issued a joint statement encouraging their fans to “represent their clubs in the right way” because several people were arrested following violence after the same fixture in January 2024.

In March this year, on the day of the match, North Yorkshire Police urged York City fans to behave and Cleveland Police escorted York City supporters from Hartlepool Railway Station to the ground.
But after the match, the Cleveland force said that eight York fans and one Hartlepool fan had been arrested.
