A1079 close to Market Weighton reopens after crash

A major road in East Yorkshire has reopened after two vehicles crashed earlier today (February 2). 

At around 2.30pm, Humberside Police said there was a road closure in place on the A1079 between the junctions of York Road and Holme Road from Shiptonthorpe into Market Weighton.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to York Road at about 2.07pm.

A service spokesperson said: "The driver of driver the first vehicle self-released prior to Fire Service arrival and taken to hospital.

"Driver and two passengers of second vehicle medically trapped, released by Fire Service personnel and handed over to paramedics to be taken to hospital.

"Vehicles made safe.

"Hydraulic cutting equipment, two reciprocating saws and small tools in use.

"Incident left with Police and Ambulance Service."

Around 6.15pm this evening, the AA traffic news reported that the road was running freely.
