POLICE in York are investigating reports of a rape in the city centre.

As The Press reported earlier today, two areas of the city centre have been cordoned off.

A police spokesperson said the force is now appealing for witnesses following a rape at two separate locations in the early hours of this morning (August 28).

They said: "It happened between 3.30am and 4am in the Piccadilly and North Street areas of York.

"The victim is receiving specialist support while extensive enquiries continue.

"As part of our enquiries, our detectives would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen something.

"They are also keen to hear from any motorists or taxi drivers, who may have captured anything on dash-cam.

"If you have any information that could assist the investigation, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
