A York street is cordoned off this morning as police investigate what they describe as a 'serious incident'.
Blue tape is stretched across the entrance to Bellfarm Avenue, and police are only letting residents through.
Unconfirmed rumours on social media speak of a possible stabbing.
One person who posted on X at 7.30am today wrote: "Woken up by police helicopters. Byland Avenue, York, cordoned off this morning. Stabbing."
It is not Byland Avenue that has been cordoned off, however, but Bell Farm Avenue.
Police officers at the scene were unable to provide further information today.
But in a statement issued through media channels in the last half hour, North Yorkshire Police said: "We are currently dealing with a serious incident in the Roche Avenue and Bellfarm Avenue area of York.
"Specialist Crime Scene Investigators and officers are conducting thorough enquiries at the scene, and their work is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
"We understand that this may cause concern within the community and would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work diligently to establish the facts.
"The area has been cordoned off and we would ask members of the public to avoid the area to allow our officers to carry out their work without disruption.
Further details will be provided as soon as we are able."
We will bring you more information as and when we have it.
