Historical Rillington Study Group held a successful exhibition during the Ryedale Residents Weekend at Scampston Hall.
Hosted by The Bothies at Scampston Conservatory the exhibition covered aspects of Rillington, Scampston and surrounding area, showing maps, many photographs and detailed studies of local residents.
These included Mark Sutton, a rags to riches story taking him from Rillington to Rio de Janeiro, a successful engineer and who didn’t forget his birthplace by being a generous benefactor of Rillington charities.
Talks were given on the Rillington area by Pam Smith who hosts the Rillington One Place Study, which were well attended.
Visitors wandered around the displays finding relatives and ancestors in the photographs from school and local groups. There was also an area for the younger visitors with items to handle and to guess what they were used for in the past.
Volunteers were busy both days being on hand to give more information and to accept donations of photographs and further information by visitors which were gratefully received.
