A Pickering Dog Walking Field is to host a Fun Dog Show to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cedarbarn Dog Field, on the site of Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café on Thornton Road, will host the event on May 5 to help the business’s co-founder, Karl Avison raise £25,000 as part of his Ride of Their Lives challenge.

Cedarbarn's Assistant General Manager, Lauren Turnbull, has organised the event.

She said: "We wanted to complement our other family-friendly fundraising events with a fun dog show for all ages. The classes include Waggiest Tail; Dog Most Like Its Owner; Best Sausage Catcher; Best Rescue Dog; Cutest Puppy Under 12 Months; Best Golden Oldie, Best Young Handlers (under 5 and over 5) and Best in Show. We can't wait to welcome the dogs and their owners to our spacious, secure field and hopefully raise some valuable funds for Macmillan."

There will be treats from Green and Wild's and BATA for class winners, and the dog that is awarded the Best in Show will win a bespoke watercolour illustration by Pumpkin Patch Designs plus five half-hour sessions for the Cedarbarn Dog Field.

The classes will be judged by Amber Tock from Amber's Groom Room in Thornton-le-Dale and Bramble Berry natural dog treats and accessories will have a stall.

Filey dog trainer, Tracy Chapman from The Model Dog will also be running ‘Have a Go' dog agility sessions throughout the morning.

Entry is from 9.30 am on the day and the cost is £2 per class. The Fun Dog Show takes place between 10 am and 12 noon and the Dog Walking Field will reopen at 3 pm.

The Cedarbarn Dog Field is a 1.25 acre field that is open daily from 7.30 am to 8pm. It is surrounded by 6 foot high secure fencing and has a double-gated handling area to keep entry safe.

The Fun Dog Show is one of a series of fundraising events that include a Muck and Magic AD tour courtesy of the Douglas family and a Mumbler Family Fun Day sponsored by Victory Lodge of Freemasons 4042. In addition, Wendy Harding is running two Pop-up Pilates sessions and there will be a Yorkshire Gin Festival sponsored by Hatfields Land Rover.

The Ride of Their Lives takes place at York Races on the June 15 and Karl will make history as the only jockey in the 52 year old race to compete for a second time.
