Scarborough Symphony Orchestra celebrates 21 years of patronage with a concert featuring an outstanding trumpeter.
The Orchestra will mark Lady Ayckbourn’s anniversary of patronage with trumpeter soloist Holly Clark returning to play Henri Tomasi’s legendary and highly virtuosic Trumpet Concerto.
Holly last performed with the orchestra in 2022 and has now established an enviable career performing as principal trumpet with the London Sinfonietta and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, as well as playing with many other top professional orchestras in the country.
Musical Director Shaun Matthew said: "We are delighted to have Holly back as our soloist again. The concerto by Tomasi is exceptionally challenging and includes musical styles ranging from film scores to impressionism and jazz. We are all very much looking forward to this performance."
The programme also includes Lili Boulanger’s rapturous orchestral work, D’un Matin du Printemps, Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Pavane. and John Foulds’s orchestral showpiece, the evocative April, England. It closes with two orchestral and audience favourites, Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande suite and Ravel’s Boléro. These works are the epitome of sumptuous French music and will leave the audience wanting more.
The concert takes place on Saturday, February 10, at Queen Street Methodist Hall, Scarborough at 7.15pm. The orchestra’s last concert in November almost sold out so do buy your tickets early for this memorable event from the orchestra’s website: www.scarborough-orchestra.org, at Revolutions Music, Huntriss Row, Scarborough, or at the door on the night from 6.15pm.
