A former councillor and vice-chairman of Ryedale District Council has been appointed as Secretary to Friends of the British Overseas Territories.

Nathan Garbutt-Moore represented the Rillington ward from 2019 to 2023 and served two terms as Vice-Chairman of Ryedale District Council until local government reorganisation.

Friends of the British Overseas Territories is a charitable organisation which aims to promote the Overseas Territories and their interests, and strengthen the UK's deep historic links to them. There are currently 16 British Overseas territories.

The organisation was founded in 2013 and is supported by several Members of Parliament. It tailors talks to schools and colleges on a range of national curriculum-based topics including geography, conservation, history and biodiversity. It also facilitates visits to overseas territories for mainland British students and highlights environmental issues facing the Overseas Territories.

Nathan said “I feel immensely honoured to be part of the team supporting Friends of the British Overseas Territories in its aims.”
