Brooklyn Junior Football Club hosted a Halloween Spooky Football Fun Day at Flamingo Land recently.
This was the club's second annual fun day and saw a increased numbers of youngsters taking part.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Our aim over the last 12 months has been to make football accessible to girls of all abilities and ages and led by our head of Girls' section Tom Bothamley and backed by an enthusiastic committee and chairman, the event has certainly achieved that. With 50 plus girls attending this year, the day is going from strength to strength and will now become a permanent fixture on the Brooklyn calendar.
"The Brooklyn spooky fun day sub committee started planning for their annual “open to all girls” fun day back in August. The enthusiasm shown by everyone is what makes this day such fun for the girls, lots of games, prizes, Halloween themes and of course a lot of football thrown in for good measure. The day encourages new friendships, teamwork and healthy activity. To promote this there were certificates for all the girls who participated in the day and for those who went the extra mile there were some “Lass of the Grass” trophies presented at the end.
This was a completely free event and all the spooky team volunteers kindly gave up their time to coach the girls and have fun, which they all love doing especially with such a well behaved bunch of girls. All donations however were gratefully received and will go to providing the club with new equipment."
The spokesperson added: "A big thank-you to our chairman, Jamie Hopwood, who not only secured a top venue for the day at Flamingo Land, but he also threw in complementary free tickets for all the children and a parent guardian to attend the park afterwards.
"On the back of the success the club now has one under 9s team with another starting after Christmas, An under 11 team starting after Christmas and our current under 12 and 13 team increasing their numbers. To go with the successful under 15 and 16 girls teams the girl’s section at Brooklyn JFC is looking in good shape with nearly 100 members already signed on.
"We are so lucky at Brooklyn to also have committed qualified coaches in every age group ready to welcome more new players. We are always looking to increase our current teams players and/or add new teams to the group so if you have any girls who want to come and give football a try please let us know. We give all new girls two week's free to try out the training sessions."
