A major car retailer, with branches in York and Malton, has won another top award.

Ray Chapman Motors has beaten competition from around 13,500 in the national Auto Trader Retailer Awards 2023.

The family-owned and run Volvo dealership, which began in 1969, received the award for Customer Experience.

The award for selling more than 100 cars a year is determined by what Autotrader calls the UK’s largest automotive mystery shopping exercise.

It also features an in-depth analysis of customer engagement across a variety of digital touchpoints including email, phone and online messaging.

Now in its 16th year, the Auto Trader Retailer Awards celebrate the very best in automotive retailing; those brands that are pushing the standard of all aspects of the industry, including digital retailing, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.

This year, around 1500 of Auto Trader’s best performing retailer partners were shortlisted to just 63 finalists split across nine different award categories, of which just 22 were crowned winners.

It means the winners are among the top 1% of Auto Trader’s retailer partners and are rightly considered the best of the best.

The awards ceremony was in London was hosted by Auto Trader Editorial Director Erin Baker and Sales Director Matthew Schofield, alongside Auto Trader’s YouTube Director and former Top Gear presenter, Rory Reid.

Ray Chapman Motors managing director Duncan Chapman said of the win: "Winning the Customer Experience Award is of great importance to us as we have spent many years developing a company culture that is centred around customer satisfaction. This is especially important today in the digital age, customers need to feel confident in our credibility which will hopefully result in loyalty to the brand and our company."

Gazette & Herald: A successful night in London

Auto Trader’s Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Coe, said: “We were delighted to come together under one roof in the capital and put on an incredible event for our automotive retail partners to recognise the very best in the industry.

“All these retailers, brands and individuals inspire others in the industry on a daily basis and set the bar for all retailers across all sectors.

“The industry has and is changing at a pace, but again we see the huge innovation and agility of retailers, and so it’s a privilege to be able to celebrate those businesses that are truly driving our industry forward for the benefit of both their counterparts and their customers.”

Ray Chapman Motors, which also has dealerships in Bradford and Huddersfield and is headquartered in Bridlington, is a regular award winner.

Earlier this year, Volvo awarded the company National Retailer of the Year for the third year in a row.
