Malton Town Council is continuing to ensure the town blooms by supporting community wildflower planting.

Councillors and staff, along with the Mayor Cllr Ian Conlan were joined by local residents and members of Malton's new Environment Group last Friday, spades in hand, to create new wildflower circles opposite on the corners of Middlecave Drive with Middlecave Road near to the entrances to Malton School.

Cllr Conlan said: "Enthusiastic residents were supported by the Town Council to create wildflower areas amidst grassed land maintained by Town Council, in accordance with Council Environment policy at both improving biodiversity and community engagement. Local residents have undertaken to maintain the area with regular weeding to ensure that the lovely colourful wildflowers come through on this road which is such a popular walking area, as Middlecave Road leads as a Gateway for walkers on to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty, beyond where the road turns into a Bridleway and a footbridge over the A64.

"This builds on the wildflower planting near the Broughton Rise roundabout, and the area of longer grass in the cemetery that is away from the current burial areas, that will boost wildlife as well as enhance the beauty and variety of our town's green spaces. Together with Malton in Bloom, it also provides opportunity for residents to volunteer and take pride in their community."
