An Eco Day is being held next week with talks and information from local experts in their fields.

Kirkbymoorside Environment Group & Ryedale Environment Group are hosting the event on Saturday, September 30, at the Memorial Hall in Kirkbymoorside Market Place.

The Eco Day will include 20 different stalls upstairs in the Memorial Hall, between 9.30am and 3pm, for information, conversation, and children’s activities. Some stalls will have items for sale.

There will also be a series of free talks on the ground floor by experts in their field.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about - composting, waste reduction, re-use and recycling; caring for the River Rye and its surroundings; producing renewable energy and what is most appropriate for our homes; hot weather gardening, peat free compost and attracting wildlife to our gardens; how to save energy in our homes and businesses; how flooding was reduced in the Pickering area and the impact of beavers in slowing the flow and enhancing the environment; how we can improve the swift population in Ryedale.

Speakers include June Tainsh from Helmsley Walled Garden, David Goodfellow, an adviser to businesses on efficient energy use, Mike Potter, who has played a leading role in local flood prevention and Swift expert Jonathan Pomroy.

From 4pm to 6pm there will be a Conversation Café where each table will have a different topic. Visitors will be able to choose their topics and join people who know and those who would like to learn more, in two one-hour sessions.

People are asked, if possible, to bring labelled finger food to share. Tea and local apple juice will be provided..
