Preparations are under way for what promises to be a fantastic day at the Beck Isle Museum for the whole family.
Beck Isle Museum is home to a working forge and an original Columbian Printing Press dating from 1854, both of which can be seen working at a heritage day next weekend.
Joining the talented volunteers operating the press and forge will be an amazing group of local crafts people who will be demonstrating a range of crafts from willow weaving to rag rugging and quilling to knitting amongst others. There will be plenty of opportunities to join in and have a go at some of the crafts.
The museums current exhibition ‘High Days and Holidays’ features a wonderful model steam engine and the museum is delighted to announce that the real-life engine ‘Old Lass’ will be visiting the museum to support the Heritage Day and for engine enthusiasts there will also be a small selection stationary engines.
The model theme continues throughout the museum with a collection of hand-crafted fairground rides all made to scale and based on real fairground rides that visited Ryedale in the past. As part of the High Days and Holidays exhibition there is a rare chance to see the models working.
The Heritage Day aims to bring the museum alive offering a glimpse into the past for both locals and visitors to Pickering. There will be a pop up café in the courtyard and all activities are included in the usual admission price.
Heritage Day Beck Isle Museum takes place on Saturday, September 16, 11-3pm
