Two team members of Pickering's award-winning Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café have raised more than £1000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Assistant café manager Lindsey Adams completed the marathon distance of the Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike on July 15 in 10 hours, raising £525.

The following day, General Manager Alison Riley, her husband Paul, and five of their friends finished the 13-mile challenge, resulting in a total contribution of £2,660, with Mrs Riley individually raising £504.

Reflecting on the experience, Ms Adams said: "It was a fantastic day with mixed weather, but fabulous camaraderie and amazing scenery throughout."

The hike began at Alnwick Castle, ended at Bamburgh Castle and covered the breathtaking beaches and fishing villages of the Northumberland Coast.

It forms part of a series of 12 hikes that focus on the UK's scenic regions, ranging from the Lake District to the Gower Peninsula.

Each participant vows to raise £250 to aid in cancer support services.

Despite surpassing their fundraising goals, both Mrs Riley and Ms Adams are calling on for more support.

Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café, which evolved from a pick-your-own strawberries setup in a caravan 26 years ago to a flourishing farm shop and cafe, sources much of its produce from its farm and those in nearby areas.

In 2019, Karl Avison, co-founder of Cedarbarn, made a contribution of £20,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support at York Racecourse's Macmillan Ride of Your Life event.
