EH-UP it's Yorkshire Day and to celebrate the greatest county Pickering Yarnbombers have transformed the town with their amazing creations.

The theme is a Grand Summer in Yorkshire - despite the unseasonal weather.

Watch out for Nora Batty and Compo, Yorkshire roses, sheep, a NYMR train, cup of Yorkshire Tea and cricket bat.

A spokesperson for Visit Pickering said: " A huge thanks to Pickering Yarn-bombers, ladies from the Knit and Natter Group in Pickering Library, The Masonic Lodge, The Black Swan, Tia Greyhound Shop and The Black Swan.

"Enjoy your Summer and may we see some sunshine."

Yorkshire Day was established relatively recently in 1975. The nature of the region and its people meant it was quickly adopted and it has grown in significance year on year.

The first Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration in 1985 was held in York. Since then the council and Mayor of different towns and cities have had the honour of hosting it. Year on year it has evolved into an established format comprising breakfast reception and robing, thanks-giving service, street parade of all the dignitaries and guests and a formal lunch to finish.

The date alludes to the regimental anniversary of the Battle of Minden on August 1 and the wearing of roses in the headdress on that day.
