Malton Museum’s Roman Festival is urgently looking for volunteers to ensure the event goes ahead in September.

The festival was due to be held last weekend but was cancelled due to the bad weather like many other events in Yorkshire.

A spokesperson for the festival said: "It is hoped to reschedule it for Saturday, September 23 which is only seven weeks away, however a number of our volunteers who would have staffed the event are not available on that date and to ensure the event runs safely for all, we need some new volunteers to step and help us make sure this fun community event for all the family can go ahead.

"A small commitment of two hours at any point during the day would help enormously and there are a number of roles to choose from such as arena steward, gate admittance, kids activities, set up and clear away, general steward and car parking. You get free entry to the festival for your time.

"Time is of the essence though so if you can help, please contact the Roman Festival Team Leader by Sunday August 6th by writing to maltonhorsepower@gmail.com"
