Saint Catherine's, a hospice in North and East Yorkshire, has launched a summer cash raffle to raise funds for patient care.

The raffle, which will be drawn on Thursday August 24, offers a top prize of £2,500.

The other prizes include £250 for second place and five prizes of £50 each.

In the previous spring raffle, a lucky winner named Chris Rooke from Scarborough won the top prize of £2,500.

Mr Rooke said: “I think everyone from this area knows what amazing work Saint Catherine's does for the region, and most people who live locally will have had friends or family members that have had to use their services.

"They are truly emblematic and representative of the borough and we are all grateful for the services and support that they provide.

"I was made up to find out that I had won the main prize; it was completely unexpected and an amazing feeling.

"I haven't decided what to do with the winnings yet but I'm intending to donate a bit back to Saint Catherine's and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been looking at holidays."

Tickets for the raffle are available for £1 each or in books of 20.

They can be purchased online through the hospice's website at www.saintcatherines.org.uk/online-shop or by calling 01723 378406.
