North York Moors National Park’s gallery will host a summer exhibition and event programme dedicated to the acclaimed nature book The Lost Spells.

The exhibition, titled "The Lost Spells: Listening to a Landscape of Voices," will feature artwork and an immersive soundscape that includes wildlife recordings and spell songs.

The exhibition is going on tour after spending 11 months at The Sill in Northumberland, with the first venue being the 'Inspired by...' gallery at Danby Lodge National Park Centre in the North York Moors.

Running from July 15 to September 10, the family-friendly exhibition aims to bring the enchanting spell poems in The Lost Spells book to life.

The exhibition is free to enter and encourages visitors to read each poem aloud.

Alongside the beautiful illustrations, visitors can also listen to recordings of wildlife and acoustic music from the Spell Songs.

The exhibition will offer a creative hub with sensory trays and drawing activities for children, as well as The Magic of Nature Trail in the grounds of Danby Lodge.

This trail allows children to listen for nature's sounds, including the chant of robins and the rustling of oak tree leaves.

There will also be a special event called Becoming Fox on August 3, where performing artist Bidi Iredale and Cleveland Fibre Arts will take children on a journey into the natural world through storytelling and mask making.

For adults, there will be two creative writing workshops on July 29 and September 2.

These workshops, led by author Clara Challoner Walker and poet Janet Dean, aim to inspire aspiring writers using the exhibition as a source of inspiration.

Sally Ann Smith, the curator of the 'Inspired by…' gallery, said: “We’re delighted to be the first tour venue for the exhibition, particularly as it is so inspiring and a wonderful way to help people feel more connected both with nature and our cherished landscapes."

The exhibition is in association with Penguin Books and has received support from the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
