A 'WONDERFUL' day was held in Helmsley on Easter Saturday.

Organised by Helmsley Together, a group set up to put events on in the town for both locals and visitors, worked with Helmsley Walled Garden to bring the Easter event.

Actvities included egg decorating, bonnet making, Easter Trail with prizes, and at the same time an opportunity to explore the gardens.

Annika Dowson, of the group, said: “The day was wonderful. We had so many families come along, we weren’t really sure what the turn out would be, if we are honest, the turn out was much bigger than we expected. The weather was definitely on our side. We had families before the gardens opened queuing which was rather exciting.

"We believe we welcomed in around 120 children plus their families. All enjoying, Easter Bonnet making, decorating biscuits, glitter tattoos, decorating eggs ready to roll on the final stage of the trail through the gardens, We had some wonderful volunteers who without their help on the day, it wouldn’t have been possible to pull off.

"We can’t forget Benjamin Rabbit or David Hinde the Helmsley Town Crier, you could see the smile and ‘awe' on the childrens faces when they met them.

"Feed back has been great and we are looking forward to working with the Helmsley Walled Garden again."

Annika said: "June and her Team at the HWG have been very accommodating, through our planning stages it’s been really interesting to see the time and work that they put in day after day, personally I’m really looking forward to visiting over the coming months to see it’s in its full bloom glory.

"The day really was what Helmsley Together are trying to do, bringing people to Helmsley attractions, be they locals or visitors.

"With the discounted admission on the day, it did mean those who didn’t necessarily want to do the trail could still come along, a great opportunity to explore the gardens, many of whom we are hopeful will return.

"Once again we would like to thank Helmsley Town Council for the grant we were awarded to put this together, but also we had a late sponsor from the Black Swan in Helmsley.

"These sponsors are really important and valued so we can keep each event inclusive for all."
