THERE were two Covid deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Ryedale – and the number of people in hospital has continued to increase.

The latest figures from the UK coronavirus dashboard show a total of 153 people had died in the area by March 2 – up from 151 on the week before.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Trust was caring for 133 patients with Covid in hospital as of Wednesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital with Covid by 8am on March 15 was up from 115 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid increased in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 78.

A total of 185,234 deaths were recorded throughout England by March 2.

Nationally, the number of hospital patients with Covid has increased by 17 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 34 per cent.

The figures also show that 90 new patients with Covid were admitted to hospital in York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to March 13. This was up from 86 in the previous seven days.
