An open morning has been held following the completion of major repairs to Marton Mission Room.

The event featured an exhibition of the history of the Mission Room.

Built in 1849 as a school for Marton children, in 1853 it was licensed for worship for this agricultural community, and Services have been held there regularly.

In 1969 the school was transferred to Sinnington School and the Room, which is at the centre of the village, has been in use for many community activities over the years, as well as Church Services.

In the early 2000s computer classes were held, keep-fit classes, embroidery classes and art classes. The WI a;sp met here for 50 years.

Mornings, a non-denominational drop-in session, has met since 1996, and will resume now the repairs are complete. It is hoped that new ideas for gatherings will emerge – bookings may be made on 01751 431976.

The repair work, which included the renewal of flooring was carried out by Stockills of Snainton; and the re-decoration by Bailey & Medd of York.
