MORE snow has been forecast for Ryedale tomorrow – after light sleet fell on parts of the district today.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place for North Yorkshire until Saturday, with a stronger amber warning in effect for snow for the Yorkshire Dales and West Yorkshire from tomorrow until Friday.

Andy Vis, who runs North Yorkshire Weather Updates, told the Gazette & Herald: "We could see over 10 centimetres of snow across parts of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Wolds (today), especially over 150 metres.

"Close to the coast it’s most likely to be rain or sleet with it being slightly warmer here."

BBC Weather, in association with MeteoGroup, is predicting sleet and a moderate breeze across Ryedale from 9am tomorrow morning.

Temperatures are set to drop to freezing tonight, and rise to 4C tomorrow with a low of 1C.

Sleet and a moderate breeze is expected to continue throughout tomorrow and into Friday.

On Friday, forecasters say temperatures will drop further with a low of -5C and a high of 3C.

Andy added: "At lower levels further inland places such as Malton/Pickering/Kirkbymoorside/Helmsley could possibly see a covering of snow for a time overnight into Friday but no more than a few centimetres expected here.

"Any snow likely to clear Friday morning leading to a dry day with sunny spells away from coastal districts which could see some wintry showers lingering.

Moving into the weekend, clearer weather is forecast for Saturday morning, but temperatures remain low between 1C to 4C.

Forecasters say sleet showers will return on Saturday afternoon, with rain to follow on Sunday.
