POLICE have urged residents in the Scarborough area to check their gardens to ensure that nothing has been stolen, after thieves struck in the town.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police yesterday (February 28) said that there were two males in custody following a theft from a property in the Wykeham Street area.

They said a van was stopped and searched following a report from a member of the public, which resulted in the arrests.

The force is now appealing to residents of the areas to check their gardens and sheds to ensure nothing has been taken from other properties – adding that “numerous” items were found in the van, which they believed to have been from other properties.
