THE number of people in hospital with Covid in York and Scarborough has continued to rise over the latest weekly period – but there were no recorded deaths in Ryedale.

Latest figures from the UK Covid dashboard show a total of 151 people had died in the area by February 9 – which was unchanged from on the week before.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Trust was caring for 87 patients with Covid in hospital as of Tuesday, February 21, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital with Covid by 8am on February 22 was up from 78 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 increased in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 81.

Nationally, the number of hospital patients with Covid has increased by 42 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 30 per cent.

The figures also show that 68 new patients with Covid were admitted to hospital in York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to February 20. This was up from 42 in the previous seven days.
