BBC Broadcaster and novelist James Naughtie will be coming Malton next week.

The event is part of Kemps Bookshop's continuing programme of events and will be held at The Milton Rooms on March 7.

James has enjoyed a career spanning decades as one of the most treasured BBC broadcasters, alongside an illustrious publishing career with books on a multitude of topics, not least his Flemyng Brothers spy series which count Kate Mosse and Alexander McCall-Smith amongst their fans.

In conversation with David Banks, James will discuss his writing, take questions and sign copies of the new book.

The Spy Across the Water is the the third instalment in James Naughtie's spy series, woven around three brothers bound together forever through espionage.

Other subjects people may wish to quiz James about include his experiences covering the US elections for the BBC and his love of music among many others. Tickets are available from The Milton Rooms.

In the bookshop there are also regular book clubs, out of hours bookshop tours, craft classes and coming up on March 2 Anna Potter from Swallows & Damsons will be at Kemps in conversation with Gemma from The Topiary Tree Malton to discuss her new book Flower Philosophy.

As well as the chat there will be some demonstration, the opportunity to ask questions and afterwards Anna will be signing copies of the book. In the book Anna guides you through the process of creating your own wreathes, bouquets and installations, all using flowers that can be bought, found and foraged from your neighbourhood, so it promises to be a lovely creative evening.

In the coming months there are several other book events and launches available to book now including three local authors.

Paula Lichtarowicz will share her new book The Snow Hare. Fifteen years after her grandmother Babcia's death, Paula took out the tapes Babcia had recorded about her life and met, not her granny, but a grief-stricken woman who was displaced during the 1939 war and sent to a war camp in Siberia. This inspired Paula to write The Snow Hare.

Stephanie Butland, the author of seven novels, including the beloved bookshop tale Lost For Words, as well as The Curious Heart Of Ailsa Rae will talk about her newest novel Found In A Bookshop. Her first two books were memoirs of her dance with cancer. This new book is the story of how a bookshop can heal a community.

Finally Sarah Banks will be launching her new book in the award-winning Wild Guide series, Wild Guide North East England. This is an inspiring travel compendium revealing the most exciting hidden places in Northumberland, Yorkshire's moors and coast, the Wolds and the North Pennines. From secluded coves and deserted beaches to lost ruins, sacred stones, wildflower meadows and swimming rivers, the book includes more than 900 secret adventures and the best places to eat and sleep. Featuring dazzling photography, detailed maps and engaging travel writing, this is the perfect guide for explorers and families seeking wilder adventures and ultimate weekend escapes.

Join Sarah and the Kemps team at the launch of the book where there will be an exhibition of photography from the guide and Sarah will talk about highlights from her travels and will be happy to chat to you about planning your own wilder adventures.
