Work has started to fix a sewage leak connected a village to the main network.

A pipe between the pumping station and wastewater treatment plant burst at the beginning of January

As a result of the leak in the sewer connecting Sinnington to the main network, a tank has been positioned outside the pumping station in the village to transport wastewater to a nearby treatment plant.

The vehicle has been operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure that the sewage in the wet well next to the pumping station does not exceed the allowed level to prevent it from overflowing into the river.

After weeks of waiting, engineering work has now started to locate and fix the burst pipe, but it is not clear how long it will take to rectify the situation.

said: “When I was informed about the sewage problem, I visited the site to understand the issue. I spoke with the residents who have been affected by the noise emanating from the tank, particularly overnight. I also attended the Parish Council meeting in Sinnington to provide updates about the situation.

“I am glad that Yorkshire Water acted immediately after the pipe burst. While it has taken them weeks to get the operation to locate and fix the burst sewer starting, we are all relieved that work has finally commenced. Residents can now see that progress is being made and hopefully the matter will be fully resolved soon.”

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We’ve started work on a repair to one of our rising mains in Sinnington. We know works like this can be inconvenient for local residents, and we’d like to thank our customers for their patience whilst we work on the fix”.
