A FLOOD alert is in place for the Lower River Derwent.

The areas impacted will be local roads and low-lying land around Stamford Bridge, Pocklington, Wressle, Wilberfoss and Elvington.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.

“Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.”

At present, messages from the Environment Agency are automated due to industrial action.

There are currently no flood alerts in place for the Upper River Derwent or the Pickering Beck.

In York a flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Ouse in the centre of York.

It says that flooding is expected in the area and “properties are at risk of flooding.”

The Environment Agency has advised those in York to monitor local weather and river conditions and avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water.
