Ryedale Family History Group first monthly meeting talk of 2023 will be a zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 18 at 2.30pm.

The speaker, Jean Renwick, will give an illustrated talk about the research and writing of her book 'The Mourning Brooch' .

After inheriting a mourning brooch, Jean was intrigued to know who was Elizabeth Addy, commemorated in the brooch, and what happened to the two little girls she left behind.

Acclaimed by Yorkshire historians for its authenticity, the book reveals how the girls’ lives took them in very different directions.

With the help of newspaper archives, Jean discovered scandals which have added drama to the story.

You will hear how Jean’s research in Yorkshire and the USA revealed much about the personalities of the characters, reflected in how she shaped the book.

Ryedale Family History Group members will automatically be sent a link to the zoom meeting. Non members are also welcome to join us and can do so by contacting our membership secretary on members@ryedalefamilyhistory.org

Do you have a piece of mourning jewellery? Bring it to the meeting and share what you know of its history.
