A WARNING has been issued by the Met Office and Environment Agency today (November 18) for flooding in Ryedale, following yesterday’s heavy rain fall.

Although the Met Office yellow weather warning for rain has been lifted in Ryedale, flood warnings have been issued for large parts of the district.

A low-risk flood warning remains in place for most of North Yorkshire, as there is a high chance of overflowing rivers flooding onto low lying land and roads.

River levels are rising on the River Derwent.

Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Derwent, with low lying land expected to be most affected.

The areas most at risk are those around The Upper Derwent and Scarborough areas, including land around The Sea Cut at Scalby, Throxenby Beck, Old Malton, and Priorpot Beck in Norton.

Levels continue to rise further down the River Derwent, with flooding expected in low lying land around Stamford Bridge, Pocklington, Wressle, Wilberfoss and Elvington.

A flood alert for the river Rye catchment remains in force.

Areas most at risk include land around the river including Ralsdale Beck, River Seph, Ledge Beck, Fangdale Beck, Prodale Beck, Ladhill Beck, Etton Gill, Borough Beck and Spittle Beck, including at Salton, Nunnington and Helmsley.

In Pickering the water level at the Pickering bund, on the Pickering Beck, is high at around 2.67 metres.

No further significant rainfall is forecast; however, levels will remain high over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
