AGM to decide if Rosedale show returns in 2023

The Rosedale Show was previously held annually on the Milburn Arms Field in the village.

It took place every year since 1871.

However, the show has not taken place since 2019 due to fears over Covid.

Now, the Rosedale Show Committee will decide at their AGM on Thursday, November 3, if the show will make a return for 2023.

The AGM will be held at 7pm at the Updale Reading Room, Rosedale East.

Lynn Kershaw, who is a Rosedale Show committee member, said it is the committee’s intention to hold the show it, but it must be decided formally at the AGM.

Lynn said: “I think everyone is looking forward to getting stuck in and getting it organised.”

If the vote is passed for the show to go ahead, Lynn explained that there will be a lot to organise.

She said careful consideration must be had over judges, categories and also the renting of equipment needed on the day.

Lynn added that the very ethos of the show, means that it relies heavily on the ‘good spirit of the farming community.’

Planning is also crucial to the show being able to secure the Milburn Arms Field for the day.

“One of the first jobs will be to confirm that we can actually use the field,” said Lynn.

Despite a three-year absence, Lynn spoke of how people are keen to get back to the show.

“I think a lot of people will be really pleased to see the show back,” she said.

The Rosedale Make, Bake and Grow Show was organised as a scaled down alternative to the Rosedale Show this year, and took place on August 20 at Church Turret Field, in Rosedale Abbey.

At the show there were over 270 entries with 48 classes for vegetables, flowers, baking, crafts, and a children’s section.

Alongside the entries were stalls selling organic plants and vegetables, and a raffle.

Lynn, who also helped organise the Make, Bake and Grow Show, said: “The reaction we had to the Make, Bake and Grow Show gave a lot to think about.

“People were really pleased to see a show.”

The Rosedale show would have celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2021.

Lynn said it is hoped that this significant milestone can be celebrated properly should the Rosedale Show return for 2023.

She also explained how in the past the show has been something that has drawn people to Rosedale, with many stopping off at the show while on holiday in the area.

“There’s a lot of history there,” said Lynn.
