POLICE have issued a warning about a fake TV Licensing email.

Customers are being sent an email made to look as though it's from the ‘TV Licensing Email Team’, and are asked to click on link taking them to a fake page made by fraudsters, designed to steal personal information and money.

North Yorkshire Police have advised people to check TV Licensing emails are genuine before clicking on any links within them.

Genuine emails are sent from donotreply@tvlicensing.co.uk or donotreply@spp.tvlicensing.co.uk.

If you’ve given TV Licensing your name, then they’ll always address you using your last name and title - scammers won’t normally have that information about you.

Customers are also advised to check the spelling and grammar, as scammers cannot use genuine TV Licensing web addresses or email addresses, so will try to use slightly different spellings.

Be suspicious too if there are mistakes in the email with capital letters or other grammatical errors, like missing full stops – this could be a scam.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police added: “Always check links in an email before clicking or tapping them.

“If you're on a computer, hover over the link (but don't click it). This will reveal the name of the web address that you are being sent to.

“If you're on a smartphone or tablet, press and hold on the link (don't release while you are on the link). This will reveal the name of the web address that you are being sent to.

“Forward scam emails to the National Cyber Security Centre on report@phishing.gov.uk and then delete it.

“If you have provided any personal or bank details in response to an email like this, contact your bank immediately and then call us on 101 or by using our online reporting tool."
