IT'S FULL steam ahead for organisers of a heritage railway gala in Pickering this weekend.

Train enthusiasts of all ages are gathering at the Ryedale market town for events held at the Showground and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway today and tomorrow.

Miniature railway collectors will descend on Pickering Showfield, off the A169, for demonstrations of more than 40 exhibitors from across the country.

Visitors will even be able to get their own rail-themed items valued at an auction advice centre and there will be stalls buying and selling railway memorabilia.

Organisers are running a free shuttle bus every 15 minutes from the Showground to Pickering Railway Station, where there will be a number of locos on show for their annual spring gala.

Event manager Andrew Dunce said: "There will be freight trains, LNER teak carriages, Pullman trains, double heading and a steam service through to Whitby with connections to the Esk Valley line. There will be a park and ride service will run from Pickering Showground to Pickering Railway Station.

"And for those wanting to make a weekend of it people there are caravan and camping facilities available on the Showground for the weekend."

Opening hours for the Giant Model Railfest are 10am to 5pm daily. Entrance costs £6 adults, £4 children and a family ticket £15. Included in the price is a discount travel voucher for the NYMR.
