A MAJOR North Yorkshire road reopened this morning (August 17) after a police incident.

The A64 near Malton reopened at 3.20am, after being closed in both directions for several hours following concern over a person in distress.

North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the person was brought to safety and is now receiving the help they need.

As reported by the Gazette and Herald, fire crews from Malton, Scarborough and Tadcaster responded to the incident at 12.27am on Outgang Road in Malton and used the ariel ladder platform and rope rescue kit to assist the police in bringing the person to safety.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “Police would like to thank motorists in the area for their patience whilst the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.
