HEATWAVE temperatures are expected to continue this week across North Yorkshire, with thunderstorms to follow next week.

According to BBC weather, temperatures are set to sit in the late 20s Celsius in Ryedale and York, rising into the early 30s Celsius on Thursday and Friday (August 11-12).

Temperatures are expected to peak at 31C on Thursday and 30C on Friday.

A heat-health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and is set to come into force today (August 9) at 12pm where it will remain until 6pm on Saturday (August 13).

This alert service acts as an early warning system to help healthcare professionals manage through periods of high temperatures that may affect the public’s health.

A level three (amber) alert has also been issued by the Met Office, which will also come into force at midday today, ending at 11pm on Sunday (August 14).

Temperatures are not forecast to reach the record-breaking levels of July, which seen record breaking heats across North Yorkshire of 40C.

These temperatures are set to drop on Monday (August 15) to the early 20s Celsius, with thunder also expected.

Rain is then expected throughout next week.
