EMERGENCY services were called yesterday (July 19) to a woodland fire in Sherburn that had spread to a caravan and building during North Yorkshire’s hottest day on record.
Crews from Filey, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Tadcaster were on the scene at 12.33pm following reports of a fire to approximately one acre of woodland, along with one caravan which had then spread to a building.
A major incident was declared yesterday as fire crews battled fires across the county after a surge in calls due to the extreme weather conditions.
